Unidine's "Carnival for the Cause" raises $80,000 for Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly Boston Chapter Unidine/Little Brothers Partnership is full-steam ahead; Second Annual Fundraising Gala is a Great Success

Newton, MA - March 7, 2008: Unidine Corporation, a leader in the food and dining management services industry, today announced that its “Carnival for the Cause” event to benefit Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly Boston Chapter has raised $80,000 for the organization. Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among Boston’s at-risk seniors.

Unidine announced its philanthropic corporate support for Little Brothers in 2007 and held its first annual fundraiser, “Unidine’s Circle of Friends Iron Chef Gala,” to elevate awareness of and generate financial support for the program. The event was so successful, it is now held annually. Last night’s gala, Unidine’s Carnival for the Cause,” took place at Rumor nightclub in Boston’s Theatre District. The carnival-themed affair was complete with gaming tables and delicious food by Beverly-based Celebrations Gourmet Catering. Kiss 108’s and NECN’s Billy Costa emceed the event and live auction. Once again, this event will allow Little Brothers to expand their local outreach programs, raise awareness of their organization and recruit future volunteers.

Little Brothers offers seniors without family or adequate social contact programs that bring elders and volunteers together in one-on-one friendly and supportive relationships. Volunteer programs include medical transportation and emergency food delivery, and holiday visitation and meal delivery programs designed to provide companionship and nutritious home-delivered meals free of charge.

“With the success of this event, Unidine has further cemented our partnership with Little Brothers. We’re proud to present and sponsor such a premier annual fundraising event,” said Richard B. Schenkel, President and CEO of Unidine. “As an organization that takes pride in serving the senior community, we encourage people to become involved and offer support to improve the lives of elderly people.”

Adds Little Brother’s Executive Director, Martha Guerin: “We strongly believe that feeding the soul as well as the body promotes both physical and mental health…With Unidine’s dedication to serving quality food to the senior community, they are the perfect complement to our organization.
